Style can be a highly controversial topic of conversation. What’s the hot piece to wear? What shouldn’t be worn? What are the happening trends? Why is “she or he” wearing that? The real questions we should be asking are…what looks good on my body and what fashions truly represent my personal style? Fashion should be more about originality, quality and proper fit as opposed to “what everyone else is wearing.”
The number one rule of summer fashion and therefore any season is to wear what fits. It’s not cute to try to fit into something that doesn’t flatter your shape. In addition to this it’s important to follow only the trends that complement your personal style and your body. Let’s face it. Not everyone looks hot in bright orange or lace. Bandage skirts aren’t going to look good on every body type. Wearing the right size no matter what number it may be is nothing to be ashamed of. Honestly, who is going to pull out your tag and look at the number on your jeans? Nobody…
That being said I’d like to give you all the low down on what styles and trends are in this summer.
Colored Denim Makes a Summer Appearance
Colored denim is making a summer appearance except this time in the form of shorts. I personally love this trend and think it’s an easy one to incorporate into your wardrobe. Everyone is selling them so you don’t have to spend too much or drive too far!
Print Me Pretty
Do you love wearing prints? Well you’re in luck! This summer is all about wearing them and the trend isn’t too discriminating either. Floral prints, tie dye, tribal prints, ikat and paisley prints can all be seen in this summer’s hottest wardrobe pieces. Make sure you pair anything printed with something basic and not wildly colorful. Wearing two different prints can be quite risky but it was pretty popular in the fall. However, I suggest sticking to the basics so you don’t overdo it.
Sundress Me Up
Sundresses simply never go out of style. They’re one of the easiest fashion essential to keep in your summer wardrobe. Get them in fun bright colors, pastels or prints! The possibilities are endless. Plus, all you have to do is throw on a pair of gladiators, add a few accessories and you have a complete outfit in under 2 minutes.
Colorblock
Throughout the past year or so colorblocking has been a huge trend when it comes to dresses and skirts. However, this summer is daring you to create your own colorblocked look! I’ll be honest though this look is as risky to pull off as wearing different prints together. My advice is…when in doubt go with what you feel comfortable in. It’s okay to experiment outside of your comfort zone but if you feel that an outfit is too much for your tastes then find something else that better suits you.
Boat Shoes Aren’t Just For The Fellas
That’s right…us gals can rock ‘em too! I’m loving these gold Sperrys. Pair them with a pair of white or khaki shorts and you’re good to go!
Don’t Forget the Pedi!
Nothing completes your summer look like freshly painted toes. In fact, if there’s anything you take from this post please please please don’t ever wear an open- toe shoe/sandal/heel without having painted toenails. It just does not look appealing. Pastels, neons and glitter are all in as far as polish is concerned. I’m loving Essie’s Summer Collection.
Last But Not Least
Don’t forget about these happening summer trends either…
- Gladiators/Strappy Sandals
- Bustiers
- Blazers (Always a great choice to dress up a casual outfit)
- Coral/Peach Blush (Classic choice for contouring your cheeks)
